Meet the Boomers

Kim Power

Inspired by the hwyl and harmony of Welsh choral singing as part of her heritage, Kim’s musical life has been anchored in singing with mixed-voice and women’s-voice choirs, trios and quartets, and in musical theatre.  She finds special satisfaction in the sonic “buzz” of performing with her family. Kim has a background in piano, flute, recorder, and ukulele, and, for a few years, was thrilled to take on the challenge of bagpipes.  With the Sonic Boomers, Kim loves bringing the harmony of back-up vocals, as well as sharing the lead vocals and the mysteries of the harmonica, with such an accomplished group of musicians.

Rob Hilkes

Rob likes to lend his voice to many genres of music, having performed various fun roles in musical theatre, sung in various choirs and acapella groups, and performed orchestral numbers including Handel’s Messiah and Beethoven’s #9 with the KW Symphony orchestra. But his best jam is singing classic rock/blues favourites in front of people who love that sort of thing, perhaps even inspiring people to get off their duffs and dance. Rob plays a mean tambourine, and thinks he can play flute and saxophone.

David Somppi

Music has always been in David’s life.  A circa 1920 Heintzman piano, which followed him from Thunder Bay to Hamilton and Carleton Place, is the main platform on which he has studied classical, rock and jazz.  As a young performer, his parents were “overjoyed” that instead of attending university he played keyboards and trumpet in Northwestern Ontario’s finest establishments.  David’s more recent musical projects include earning a Certificate in Keyboard Performance from the Berklee College of Music, playing piano in a 17-piece big band, and sitting in with rock and jazz combos.  David is excited that the Sonic Boomers brings together long time musical friends who share his love for great music.

Bob Corson

A guitarist since the age of twelve, Bob’s musical journey has spanned many rock, blues, and jazz bands. In 2006, Bob wrote, recorded, and released a CD titled “Kick Back and
Relax”. All proceeds from the CD went to a support a local charity.
In 2023 Bob joined Zooloo and The Seaweeds, a blues rock touring act that released a sixth album “Black Pearls” in October 2024. In September of 2024 Bob graduated
summa cum lade with a Bachelors of Arts in Guitar Performance from The Berklee College of Music.

“Playing with Sonic Boomers is a fun privilege. We cover great
tunes, have layered vocals akin to divine inspiration, and put on a show that is engaging for eardrums and dancing feet”

Neil Saungikar

Neil Saungikar grew up in Brampton, Ontario and took up drumming at age 12 after being impressed with the military drummers he saw in a parade. After moving to Ottawa in 1990 to pursue a career in the local technology sector, he found time to play in a wide variety of bands, on a number of recordings and for theatre performances. During this time, his interests expanded beyond the drum kit and into hand drums from around the world.

Steve Kornachuk

Steve Kornachuk has been playing bass in various party bands for about 3 decades  in Ottawa, Ontario and in San Jose, California.  He’s on a mission to lay down those grooves that’ll pack the dance floor!
